Citations are important to give credit to other authors, establish credibility in your own work, and offer readers other sources for their own work. Similarly, consistent styles ensure readability and professionalism. These guidelines are focused on student papers. Always follow the guidelines as instructed by your instructors.

MLA
- Often used in literature, language, and writing fields.
- Utilizes a header instead of a title page.
APA
- Used in psychology, nursing, and education.
- Requires a title page; professional papers require a capitalized running head.
- Bolded titles and 'References' heading are required.
Chicago
- Used in history, business, and humanities.
- Uses bibliographies and footnotes.
- Does not typically require title pages unless specified.
